OM Foundation charitable activities:
OM Foundation focus is on serving poor people of Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal state of India. More than 80% people from the villages of these districts are poor who survives on less than $ 5 a day. In 2020 the organization will target at least 500 people who will be benefitted from community kitchen meals. The whole operation will be conducted by local volunteers from the villages of these districts. The people in villages are mostly dependent on serving landlords by working in their agricultural fields. Agriculture is seasonal and do not support their livelihood.
In year 2021 and subsequent years the organization will increase its target to 1000 people for the community kitchen serving.
OM Foundation is focussed on providing fresh drinking water to the village people who hardly have access to proper drinking water. This organization plans to maintain at least two tube wells / bore wells.
OM Foundation will undertake setting up community public washroom for Women and girl child. Most of the village people do not have their own private washrooms. They are forced to go and defecate in the open ground area. Through this project this organization will help in reducing the health hazards. It will undertake to maintain at least one washroom per year.
OM Foundation is going to set up Health checkup clinic for the villagers surrounding in HarigramGoenka More (small town) and its surrounding villages of population of over 5000 people. Most of the poor villagers are not able to afford basic health care needs of their families. They have to travel for more than an hour to reach to nearest Hospital in the district town. It will be a basic health check up on a yearly basis to individual who qualifies for this service.
OM Foundation will set up a scholarship fund to promote and motivate meritorious students who are socially backward for higher education in Colleges /Universities. In addition this organization will focus on supplying school items such as books, notebooks,equipments like calculators , computers either directly to the students or to school. Also, it plans to support needy students tutor coaching to prepare them for Entrance Exam.
The premise of setting up OM Foundation is based on the needs the developing world is facing. The most basic needs of human beings are to get access to safe drinking water, food and basic sanitation. As per Maslow’s theory of “Heirarchy of Human Needs “food and water are a few which comes up.
OM Foundation is striving to get these basic needs to the people in the rural society of Bengal, India. Billion people in this world do not have access to safe drinking water and more than 2.5 billion with no access to basic sanitation. Situation is very grim in the rural areas where most of the population still lives.
As per World Health Organization (WHO) diarrhoeal disease is the second leading cause of death in children under five years old and is responsible for killing around 525,000 children every year. This disease is preventable to a great extent if safe drinking water and proper sanitation is available.
